2x21 - Some People (HQ)
Sung by: Chris Colfer (Kurt)
OMFG!!!!
New Glee songs this week are amazing! We’ve loving this and Pure Imagination, premiered by our friends at EW.. The rest are on GleeTheMusic, as always.
Oh, Jesus. At this rate, by the season finale Kurt will probably have sung all of Mama Rose’s songs, plus all of the strippers’ parts in You Gotta Get a Gimmick.
I want to smash things.
I recently revisited his performance of Rose’s Turn and admitted to myself that it wasn’t as bad as I remembered. There was only like, one note that he didn’t sing full voice and it sounded fine. Plus if there is one thing Chris Colfer is it’s committed.
But this.
STOP MAKING THIS BOY SING SONGS OUT OF HIS RANGE. It is such a disservice to his character and to the song. Songs are written to be sung in specific vocal places for a reason. This song in falsetto guarantees it has no power or feeling or anything good music should have. No amount of acting can make it not look and sound like a baby-faced boy with a beautiful soprano.
IF YOU WANT HIM TO SING THE SONGS JUST CHANGE THE EFFING KEY. He will sound better. The character will be better. He won’t have to be acting so hard. Make it easy on everyone. AND IF IT DOESN’T SOUND GOOD PICK A DIFFERENT SONG. I don’t want to be that asshole who is forcing boy things on the kid, but sheesh there are tons of beautiful male showtunes that can fit the character. And I’m not saying it because I don’t want him to love lady things, I’m saying it because you should let your clearly favorite character have songs that he sounds better on.
There is nothing sadder than a popped balloon or a faded diva.
I agree. And they made it worse by having him option up at the end. Chris Colfer, no matter how much you wish you were, you’re not Patti LuPone. And that’s okay. I feel you pain, I’m not Patti LuPone either.

Stephen Colbert arrives on the scene to “shake things up” with fellow cast members of Stephen Sondheim’s Company (April 7–9) at the New York Philharmonic.
The star-studded group of amazing performers also includes (in alphabetical order): John Cryer, Katie Finneran, Neil Patrick Harris, Christina Hendricks, Aaron Lazar, Patti LuPone, Jill Paice, Martha Plimpton, Anika Noni Rose, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Jim Walton, and Chryssie Whitehead.
I CAN’T HANDLE IT. IT’S TOO WONDERFUL.

“Not confirmed” makes me nervous, but this is better news than nothing.
If this is not filmed I may cut someone. STEPHEN COLBERT.

I’m sure Sutton Foster is great in Anything Goes and all that… but she cannot possibly equal this. And this isn’t even in context. Dear Lord if there was actually a video of her singing it in the show I don’t think my heart could take it.
